Glasses for screens and blue light

If you spend many hours a day in front of screens, glasses with a blue light filter can make the day more bearable. They reduce the amount of blue light reaching the eye and help with accumulated eye strain. The choice is confirmed during the eye exam.

Before you start

Blue light is part of the light spectrum emitted by computer screens, mobile phones, tablets, and some LED lighting sources. In moderate doses, it is a natural part of daylight. The issue lies in prolonged, close-range exposure, which is increasingly common during work or study sessions with screens.

It's not just about hours. Environmental lighting, monitor distance, breaks, and ocular hydration also play a role.

How continuous screen use can affect you

After many hours in front of screens, it's common to notice:

  • · Eye strain, a tired eye sensation at the end of the day.
  • · Dry eyes from blinking less.
  • · Headaches or tension behind the eyes.
  • · Difficulty focusing from near to far after finishing the day.

None of these signs are inevitable. Most can be reduced with active breaks, good lighting, and, when use is intensive, with glasses designed for screens.

What blue light filtering glasses do

Blue light filtering glasses have a treatment on the lens that reduces the amount of blue light reaching the eye. It can be applied to prescription or non-prescription lenses.

What they do:

  • · Filter part of the blue light emitted by screens and LED lights.
  • · May reduce the sensation of eye strain during long workdays.
  • · Combine with anti-reflective coating to improve visual comfort.

What they don't do:

  • · They do not correct vision. If you need glasses, the prescription is separate.
  • · They do not replace breaks or visual hygiene.
  • · They do not guarantee that fatigue will disappear. It depends on several environmental and usage factors.

When they usually fit in

They usually fit in when:

  • · You work or study more than five or six hours a day in front of screens.
  • · You notice accumulated eye strain at the end of the day.
  • · You use your mobile or computer in the hours before going to sleep.
  • · You already wear glasses and want to add this layer to your next lens change.

What Miller & Marc screen glasses include

Our screen glasses are designed for long hours in front of the computer. They combine:

  • · Lenses from Essilor Group, world leader in ophthalmic lenses.
  • · Blue light filter that reduces exposure without color distortion.
  • · Anti-reflective and hardened coating as standard, included in all prescriptions we make.
  • · Adaptation to your prescription or available without prescription if you only seek the filter.

In store, we will show you the differences between the different filters. The lightest ones are almost imperceptible to the eye. The most intense ones may provide a slightly yellowish tint.

How we choose it with you in-store

At Miller & Marc, the decision is confirmed during a free eye exam. A registered optometrist will assess how many hours a day you spend in front of screens, what discomfort you experience, and what type of filter can provide you with a real benefit. If you already wear glasses, it can be added during your next lens replacement, keeping your current frame.

You don't need to know which filter you need before you arrive. We'll figure it out together.

FAQs About Computer Glasses

Do blue-light-filtering glasses work?

It depends on the use. For short periods in front of screens, the difference may not be noticeable. For long work or study sessions with screens, many people notice less eye strain at the end of the day. The effectiveness also depends on the type of filter and other habits such as breaks, lighting, or monitor distance.

Can screen glasses be used without a prescription?

Yes. The blue light filter can be applied to non-prescription lenses. They are used as an additional protective layer during hours of screen exposure.

Does the blue light filter change the color of the view?

It depends on the type of filter. Lighter ones leave the lens almost transparent. More intense ones can give vision a slightly yellowish tint. In-store, we can show you the differences before you decide.

How many hours a day justify screen glasses?

There's no fixed rule. In general, it's after five or six hours a day in front of screens that many people start to notice symptoms of accumulated fatigue. With fewer hours, breaks are usually sufficient.

Can a blue light filter be added to my current glasses?

Yes. If you already wear prescription glasses, the filter can be added the next time you change your lenses. The frames will be kept.

Do blue light filtering glasses help you sleep better?

Blue light from screens before bed can affect sleep patterns if exposure is too prolonged. The filter can help reduce that exposure, but it does not replace good sleep habits or limited screen use in the hours leading up to bedtime.
