Mazzucchelli - Sustainability, tradition and craftsmanship
Sustainability, tradition and craftsmanship
The Mazzucchelli family has been our acetate supplier since we first launched. Mazzucchelli 1849 is today a world leader in the manufacture and marketing of cellulose acetate, traditionally used for making frames for prescription glasses and sunglasses. Sustainability and tradition
Sustainability
At Miller & Marc we believe in the idea of "sustainable creativity" and when it comes to that, the Mazzucchelli family are certainly the best.
Since we were launched, we chose them to supply us with our most precious commodity: the cellulose acetate we use to make our frames.
Conventional acetate
Most high-quality frames are made of cellulose acetate - a material that comes mainly from wood pulp and cotton. However, the plasticisers used to make it are chemicals. Yes, it's plastic.
Organic acetate
Mazzucchelli has developed a cellulose acetate compound using a plant-based-plasticizer that means a product that comes from renewable sources: 100% biodegradable and 100% recyclable. At Miller & Marc, we make most of our frames using this material. And an added bonus: it's even better quality!
Tradition
There are certain parts of Italy where the high-quality frame-making industry has existed for centuries. One of those places is Lombardy, where Mazzucchelli was born in 1849. This family-owned factory has been there for six generations and has remained at the forefront of design and technology. But without ever losing sight of how important it is for certain processes to be done in the traditional way to maintain product quality. Its strength lies in a very special kind of tradition: the tradition of modernity.
